How videos affect everyday life
If any of you have watched the news lately you have probably seen this video of a girls soccer game. In the game, a girl in the head who had fallen after twisting her ankle is kneed in the head by a player on the opposing team. There has been a LOT of discussion about this incident. Many news stations wondered if violence like this is something that has happened for years and years, or if we notice such incidents more now because of videos/cameras/cellphones. It is interesting to see videos that are similar, such as the recent one of the coach who supposedly shoved a member of the other team down. The football player suffered a concussion and there was a group of people who met to decide what actions should be taken against the coach (from what I understand another angle showed that he acted more to protect himself and so no disciplinary actions were taken). For those of you who remember before cell phones were this prevalent, do you remember there being similar incidents that no one knew about because they weren't filmed? Do you think athletes are more violent or competitive today or do we just have more evidence of it because of videos?

I remember many times in High School sports when parents would get into actual fist fights in the stands, mostly the dads but even a few moms would get into cat fights. I've seen a parent even push a ref. I've seen kids do mean things to other kids on the field or court too. I don't think I've seen a coach touch another kid thought. But, I am one of those believers who think that the world isn't so much changed, but that things are just more available to us. I also don't think that there are more hurricanes or tornados or fires, I just feel like there is more coverage on them. When I was younger, the news on TV and Newspapers was almost always Local news. When you wanted world news you had to get a syndicated newspaper by mail. There was no internet to read news from anywhere in the world, there wasn't very many cable tv channels that dealt in news. Also, a lot of the time back then the news of a disaster or heinous crime would be reported, but we wouldn't have all the expose's (don't know if that's spelled right) that we have now. We didn't have nosy reporters digging into everyone's personal life divulging every single thing about them to the whole world. People are nosey these days, they want all the details and secrets and they want to know how the victim felt and have interviews with the victim, the neighbors, the family of the accused all so they can gossip and talk and speculate. All of this technology has made us more macabre, nosey, and gossipy.
